A theatrical journey inspired by Hector Malots famous story
Nobody's boy, based on the famous book by Hector Malot, tells about belonging nowhere, wandering around, facing setbacks, all on your own. Remi tramps around in a big and complicated world, accompanied by a cheeky monkey and three little dogs. The audience wanders along with him. Despite obstacles he decides to go on again and again. With a childlike endurance and no-nonsense attitude he takes live as it comes. And then, after a sad journey, there's a surprise waiting at the horizon.
In 2009 Moniek Merkx made a preliminary study of Nobody's boy with drama students from the HKU. The press wrote: "Nobody's boy is a lucid performance about imagination: a pair of shoes and a hat become a scary man if you want to believe it. That is why this performance qualifies as a successful introduction to theatre.(…) But at the same time, Merkx manages to tell an exiting story." (Herien Wensink, NRC)
Merkx creates with minimal resources and plain words a journey through different worlds, characterized by their own atmosphere. The journey ends with a joyful finale
