Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is an adventurous fairytale. A big three-dimensional picture book with funny drawings, mysterious nursery rhymes and dreamy lullabies. It's a new play by Moniek Merkx, inspired by known and unknown fairytales. Kortjakje is ill. She's been in bed for days. One day, the sun doesn't rise, it left, disappeared, simply vanished. Kortjakje starts a search. What part does Bluebeard play in all this? And what exactly does the little man on the moon know? Did the crocodile swallow the sun or was it devoured by the big bad book. The terrible ice queen knows something about it. But in order to make her talk, you have to look her straight in the eyes. Is Kortjakje brave enough?

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star is a dreamlike journey, in which you stumble from one adventure into the other. The journey starts in a dark bedroom and ends in a shiny white world. In the meantime, all possible magical moments pass. Kortjakje meets strange characters while passing through completely red, yellow and blue worlds. I want to create a visual performance where things come to life, animals can talk and sweet fathers turn out to be evil Bluebeards or the other way around. I was inspired by Andersens tale The snow queen, but also by the Chinese fairytale In search of the sun. The journey will be like a mission impossible, just like life sometimes feels to five year olds. The world is too big to comprehend. But if you stay true to yourself, the solutions will easily find you."
